The Importance of English in Mathematics Education


            In the last session of english of mathematics education, Mr. Marsigit talks about the importance of english in mathematics education. He stressed that english is very important to support us (as a candidate of matheatics teacher) in our effort to communicate in mathematics education. If we can communicate well in english, hopefully, we can be a good communicator for our students. We should be able to communicate to the student clearly and make nice athmosphere of teaching learning process, so that student can learn happily.

Jargon Pertengkaran Tradisional dan Inovatif

In the traditional method of teaching, the teachers always behave as if he/she is the only resources of learning mathematics for the students.. In this method, teachers always deliver or give their knowledge to the students. The students just act as a receiver on class, just be a listener, just sit on their chair and waiting for their teachers knowledge to be transfered to them. So that, this method also called as a transfer of knowledge method of teaching. This method of teaching is the most method that most of us used to experienced in the elementary school, junior on maybe in our senior high school. In the inovative approach of teaching learning mathematics the paradigm is that the teacher must facilitate the students on their way to develop their knowledge. So, there is must be exist a trust between the teacher and the student. But, the mos important is, Good teacher are teacher that be able to facilitate their student well. So, as a teacher, we should improve our ability in facilitate the student.

Many younger learner dont like mathematics because of the introduction and the development of puremathematics is used. Pure mathematics is not suitable for younger learners because it is insufficient  with enough psychological, social, and constructivist. Therefore, it is necessary to choose the right mathematical definitions to be introduced in schools. That is the definition of a defined school math that defined by Straker and Ebbutt that is about search patterns and relationships, the science of problem solving, the science of investigation activities, and communicating science.

From the article, what can i get is that the logicist and formalist there is no contradiction in mathematics. If there are inconsistencies that found, then it is the wrong mathematics. Then, the thing i can get is that something not consistent is not necessarily contradiction, but contradiction must not be consistent. What should be questioned is how carefully we examine the consistency of the logic and formal form of mathematics.

From the article, can be seen that there are still many teachers that facing a problem. Some of them find the problem in selecting an appropriate textbook for their students. They do not have the right criteria to select them. Then, there are some teachers that ask about the effectiveness of the innovative learning. For example, disscusion group method that they already used give no immediate effect on the national exam preparation. In addition,they found that in the implementation of learning process, they do so by hope that the students get good value in national examination, not to implement in daily life. Then, they also find that the time for student to be truly learn the mathematics is quite long, because there are a lot of material that they should learn. The last mentioned is the teachers still confused about the minimum standard that must be met in developing student's worksheet.

What can i see from the picture is that all the students show the happy face when they learn. There was no expression of forced student at all. So i took a conclusion that a good teacher is a teacher who can create an atmosphere of learning that is like in the picture, there is no force but learning process still going on. I want to share my opinion,someone who stops is usually the person who have experienced the despair, and i have an opinion that there are 2 kinds of despair. The first is temporary despair.For example,a person who suddenly got a big problem is natural that they feel desperate. But if in despair they then use to get closer to God, they would be more resilient to face the reality and will take lessons from the problem.  Then, the second is desperate because of tradition, congenital, personal character, or despair caused by bad habits, negative feelings, weak confidence and lack of action. This is was dangerous. Because it is human nature that does not want to think or we can called as laziness. Usually it is caused by the lifestyle that less grateful, and there is no motivation to change lives into the better one.

Until now the math is still regarded as a difficult subject. Especially for elementary students, it will be our responsibiliy to fix the teaching learning mathematics bethod in elementary school. It should be fixed so that every student can learn mathematics happily. Because of the nature  of mathematics in school is an activity, the better way in learning mathematics in school is by directly involving all students in the mathematics activity. With it, students will get a variety experiences that will continuosly imprinted in themselves withou any compulsion. From the article above, i  got information that the object of research of a teacher is their own student. All events that happened in the class can be an object of their research. By researching, teachers can asses wheter their method of teaching is right or not. Doing research is important because by doing that, learning and teaching method can be improved from time to time. Clear thinking is the state of thinking when our minds clear from negative emotions, negative thoughts, and from the wrong perceptions of the matter. Things that dirt our mind can endanger  the results of our thinking. When our mind is covered by negative thing, we can not see the problem clearly that can make us take the wrong solutions. Other than that, with negative thinking, we can not be able to see so many ideas that exist arround us, even we wont able to receive advice that could be a gold advice in our lives. Like when we wear a dirt glasses, we wont be able to see clearly.
Clear thinking is like a glass of clear watter. With a clear mind we can be able to see something clearly.

Based on my understanding on the diagram above,the nature of learning is how to process the objective knowledge, as the representation of knowledge,into the subjective knowledge as a new concepts of knowledge. Then its can be published thus can formed as a new concept and after that being exist in social discussion,it would become a feed back to our selves. For me  personally, a chance could come at many times,because God always provide an opportunity for all of us. The opportunity is never be limitedby God to His creatures. All creatures in this world is given the same opportunity by God to have success.
There's never exist a closed opportunity,except we ourselves that close it.We do not dare to try, because of that fear, our opportunity is never opened again. The key is in our mind. So open your opportunity by always think positive, take action, never give up to try, because in trying its always followed by the opportunities of success.
Its also important to pray to God. God likes everyone who always makes effort, who dare to try then He would consider that that person is worthy to obtain success.

From the article, i can conclude that teacher cant force their students to do something. The paradigm is that the teacher must facilitate the students on their way to develop their knowledge. So, there is must be exist a trust between the teacher and the student. Good teacher are teacher that be able to facilitate their student well. Therefore, the teacher need to use all technology such an IT like web blog that we can easily make them on the internet. It is important to do because students have different characters in the way on getting knowledge. In the junior or senior high school its a important to use the student worksheet. If we do like that, students can freely express their opinion without our limitation.then the students can learn happily.
